Support Grows for Novant Presbyterian $60 Million “Groundbreaking” Campaign

The Novant Health Foundation Presbyterian Medical Center is making great progress on its $60-million Capital Campaign launched earlier this year. Funds raised thus far have totaled around $15 million out of the gate, including a $10-million donation to the “GroundBreaking” campaign from the John M. Belk family.

“GroundBreaking” will support the construction of a heart, vascular, and cancer facility in Charlotte. Included in the building will be the Novant Health John. M and Claudia W. Belk Heart & Vascular Institute. The facility is targeted for completion in December 2017 and will include:

  • Cancer clinics for radiation oncology, medical oncology, surgical oncology and gynecologic oncology
  • Cardiac prevention and screening services
  • Heart and vascular clinics for cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, peripheral vascular disease and valve disorders
  • Infusion center with more than 40 bays
  • Multidisciplinary cancer clinics, where newly diagnosed patients can have their case reviewed by a team of experts
  • Dedicated cardiac and cancer nurse navigators
  • Research and clinical trials
  • Cardiac and cancer rehabilitation and wellness, offering exercise, yoga, massage, nutrition and PT/OT/speech services
  • Imaging services
  • Cardio-oncology, an emerging field of medicine dedicated to minimizing the cardiovascular impact of cancer treatment
  • Retail pharmacy
  • Chapel
  • Café
  • Cancer urgent care
  • Sky bridge connecting the facility to Presbyterian Medical Center to support continuity of care
  • Adjacent pediatric subspecialty complex to house cancer and heart services

“The early success of this campaign represents a well-coordinated staff and board planning effort.  They did their homework, addressed community needs, and have articulated the case for support very well,” noted PMA President Patton McDowell.  “It provides the Novant Health Foundation a great platform for long-term philanthropy in Charlotte and a campaign model for their other community foundations.”
