Jazz Arts Initiative
By Leighton Britton Fogan
This past fall, the Jazz Arts Initiative (JAI) engaged PMA to design a strategic plan anchored by new fundraising strategies and a board training retreat. JAI connects the cultural community and develops an audience for jazz through quality music education, performance ensembles, and professional musician support. The JAI vision is to be a catalyst for cultural enrichment and music education that brings creative inspiration to the lives of the citizens of the Charlotte, NC region.
PMA and JAI began the partnership by determining the organization’s top strategic priorities and funding goals, and identifying areas of enhancement for JAI’s current fundraising portfolio. PMA then focused on designing an overarching fund development plan, and using an array of tools, such as the 20-10-5 model for identification of prospective donors, as well as board engagement tactics, the firm crafted a step-by-step plan for JAI to utilize in its fundraising efforts. PMA also constructed an internal framework for JAI’s development department, including processes for donor cultivation and stewardship, gift acknowledgment, and data management.
With JAI’s annual holiday concert benefit on the horizon, it provided a great opportunity for PMA to find synergies among existing fundraising activities and create new strategies to help bolster the funding outcomes of this event. Together, PMA and JAI successfully tripled the projected goal, raising nearly ten times the amount raised at the event in the year prior!
PMA is honored to have this partnership with JAI, and looks forward to what is sure to be JAI’s continued success in the future!
