It’s Officially Leave a Legacy Week in Charlotte

October 17th through October 23rd, 2010 is “Leave a Legacy Week” in Charlotte, NC – a proclamation made official by Mayor Anthony Foxx. Over 75 percent of the U.S. population contributes to a charitable organization during their lifetime. However, only 8 percent will leave a charitable legacy in their will or estate plan.

I hope this week’s events will raise awareness to planned giving for any and all charities. Planned giving is a vital component for charity success that often goes overlooked. The mayor’s proclamation coupled with the upcoming events is a great opportunity to educate the public and nonprofits to the importance of a charitable legacy.

WFAE will be highlighting profiles of actual planned gifts made by Charlotteans throughout the week as well as an interview on Charlotte Talks.

News 14 Carolina spoke with Leave a Legacy chair Chris McLeod – Watch the interview.
